We’re Over It: MARKETING TO THE USA
We are planning a trip this summer. To where? Well depends who’s asking! We’re either going to a) Europe b) Germany or c) Germany and Latvia. It’s kinda like depending on who’s asking, we answer that we live in a) Scarsdale b) on the Eastchester border or c) between White Plains and Yonkers.
We are first visiting Germany for our child to meet her great grandfather. Ben is more excited for Latvia because he’s already been to Berlin but never to Riga.
Michelle is not excited about Latvia. Frankly because it’s not marketed well to Americans. In fact, it’s not marketed at all.
But Europa? Now that’s well marketed! Italy? Ooh delicious food! Spain? Flamenco dancing! Germany Oktoberfest! Latvia? Ummm, family photos in Adidas track suits?
Michelle doesn’t know what they do in Eastern Europe besides get in bread lines and never smile. Ben says, “They also hack computers and monitor American’s making jokes about breadlines that no longer exist.”
But what brings us to Riga? That’s the capital of Latvia, don’t feel bad if you don’t know - we only learned it this week. The answer is Borat! No, that’s not it. Ben’s uncle offered us a free place to stay. Talk about a cheap date.
In an attempt to be positive, Michelle has been chatting with her new best friend: ChatGPT. And the AI told Michelle this place is interesting because they are known for cobblestone streets, “white nights” and amber jewelry making! What’s that? We don’t know, but sounds like our daughter will like it.
It doesn’t hurt that the Euro takes you a lot further in Lativia. We looked into their waterparks. They are 1/3 of the price of USA waterparks. So we plan to go three times - which will defeat the purpose.
What we are saying is: Latvia seems actually really cool and please don’t go and gentrify our trip! Or at least until we come back.
We’re Over It: TRACK SUITS
Screw Nike, Adidas is where it’s at. Kinda.

Here’s Violet Myr explaining Eastern Europe to Americans.
WHAT ARE YOU OVER?
How do you feel about traveling to other countries? Ever been to Latvia or Germany? Got any must sees or must eats?
